This policy explains how personal information is collected and used through this website, stevekeall.com. It is published by Steve Keall, barrister, of FortyEight Shortland Barristers, Auckland, who is responsible for that information under the Privacy Act 2020.

This policy covers the website only. Personal information provided in the course of an engagement is handled in accordance with the terms of engagement and the professional obligations that apply to barristers, including the duty of confidentiality.

Website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the site: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive (for example from a search engine or another website), and general information about the device, browser and approximate location (to the level of city or country) used to visit. This information is used only to improve the website. It is not used to identify individual visitors, and it is not sold or shared for advertising.

Google Analytics works by placing small files called cookies in your browser, which allow it to recognise a return visit. The information collected is sent to and stored by Google, including on servers outside New Zealand, and is subject to Google's privacy policy. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services here.

Choosing not to be tracked

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can stop Google Analytics collecting information about your visits by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The website works in the same way whether or not cookies are enabled.

Server records

Like most websites, the server that hosts this site automatically records basic details of each request it receives, including the IP address, the date and time, and the page requested. These records are used to keep the site secure and working properly, and are kept for a limited period.

Contacting Steve by email or telephone

The website does not have a contact form. If you send an email or telephone, the information you provide is used to respond to you and to consider whether Steve is able to act, including checking for any conflict of interest. Please do not send confidential or sensitive details about a matter until you have been asked to.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you are entitled to ask for access to the personal information held about you and to ask for it to be corrected. To make a request, or to raise any question about this policy, email stevekeall@stevekeall.com. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

This policy may be updated from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed.
